Open-source research and Cyberdétective®: a separate knowledge area
Open-source intelligence involves finding and evaluating information that can lawfully be accessed from public sources. This section preserves an important area of Pacta's experience without presenting investigative work as part of ordinary technical support.
Separate public research from regulated investigations
Public sources can help explain an industry, verify a published fact or understand fraud patterns described by competent organisations. Good research requires checking origin, date, context and potential error. Information available online is not automatically reliable, nor can it necessarily be reused for every purpose.
Methods and tools discussed here relate to learning, documentation and general monitoring. They are not a service for collecting information about named individuals on behalf of third parties. Regulated private investigations, where applicable, require appropriately authorised professionals and careful attention to the legal context of each assignment.
- Sources: record origin and publication date where possible.
- Verification: compare independent evidence before reaching conclusions.
- Fraud awareness: study mechanisms rather than speculate about individuals.
- Data minimisation: collect only information justified by a legitimate purpose.

A short scoping discussion can identify useful work and set realistic boundaries.
Contact about my requirementsFrom an investigation-oriented background to preventive IT
The Cyberdétective® history reflects long-standing work on online information and digital risk. Today, those insights support a broader business IT practice: secure working habits, reliable backups, website care, software maintenance and user training. Understanding how things fail can improve the way they are configured and maintained.
Existing resource links remain available, including cybercrime documentation and OSINT tools. Pacta Cyber Lab provides a dedicated place for educational material and preventive information, separate from the commercial support and development offering. The distinction helps visitors understand which activities are currently performed and which are not.
